It is only fitting that the Metal Treating Institute will be releasing the results of an energy survey of its members the week after Independence Day. The study will most likely show and momentum is building around the country that the U.S. needs to be more independent with its oil resources.
Over the last 3 weeks, MTI has been gathering data from members across North America relating to natural gas prices. MTI will use this data to show legislators the negative impact rising gas prices have had on members' businesses. MTI will also be sharing the findings with the National Association of Manufacturers to help them in their efforts to drive their energy agenda.

Study Released by Robert Half & Associates on Gen Y Workers... Your Future Employees
It seems that certain generations become frustrated when dealing with future generations. They feel they don't appreciate things, they expect too much, they aren't as disciplined and lack a good work ethic. Sometimes the difference in expectations is from a lack of understanding about what makes them tick. The future of our industry is going to be in the hands of Generation Y. It is critical for the future of our industry and your company that you have a good understanding of Generation Y. Robert Half International and YAHOO! Hotjobs partnered on a study to analyze Gen Y. This is a good read for any company.
The tool steel known as D2 is considered to be a High Carbon High Chromium Cold Work tool steel.
The steel is high in both carbon and chromium for the purpose of forming large volumes of secondary chromium carbides as a result of the precipitation of the carbides during the tempering procedure. This gave rise to a high wear resistance steel.
IH Economic Indicators: All Four Indices Over 52, Three Improve from May
Industrial Heating's monthly economic indicators for June 2008 showed continued growth in the thermal-processing industry. All four indices were over 52 for the first time since February, and all four were over 50 for the 15th time in the past 16 months. The numbers for request for quotes, number of orders and backlog all experienced increases from May. June 2008's index numbers reflect the changes experienced by responding companies as they compare their May 2008 business levels to their April 2008 levels. The breakdown of numbers are:

Members from the Atlantic Coast Chapter convened at exciting Harrah’s Casino in Atlantic City during June for 2 days of education and networking. Mike Dixon from Dixon Environmental delivered a very informative session on the climate change laws that we are seeing in Congress that are impacting natural gas prices. Dr. Richard Marks delivered another highly rated in-depth presentation on Understanding Emotional Wellness and Its Impact on Your Bottom Line. Dr. Marks has spoken at 4 of MTI’s 7 Chapters in 2007 and was highly rated at every one. Most attendee's indicated that they appreciated his talk on a personal level more than a business level. Action Needed NOW on Expansion of Natural Gas Supply Amendment
We have been advised that the House Interior Appropriations Full Committee scheduled a mark up of the 2007 Peterson Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Natural Gas Amendment for today. The Peterson Amendment will lift federal bans on the development of natural gas and oil resources on the OCS from 50 miles off of the nation’s coastline.
Passage of the Peterson Amendment will lift the annual appropriations moratorium on OCS development and will stabilize the volatile energy markets, promoting investment and job creation.
Our intelligence has indicated that the following legislators need outreach on the importance of supporting the Peterson Amendment. If your legislator is on this list, we ask that you contact them via fax on your letter encouraging them to support the Peterson Amendment. The following are the list of legislators by state needing your letter. We have included their fax numbers and talking points for your fax letter:
TECH TIP of the Week: Fundamentals of Steel Alloy Selection and Process Design
Provided by David Pye - Pye Metallurgical Consultants (MTI Technical Consultant)
The following highlights the enormous importance of correct material and process selection. This is based on many years of work in both the field of heat-treatment and consulting on material and process problem analysis including problem solving. For engineered ferrous and non-ferrous materials to perform longer and better under long and arduous conditions, it is necessary for engineers, metallurgists, product designers and process engineers to gain a greater understanding of the material performance before and after heat-treatment and processing techniques. An understanding of the material behavior during selected process techniques is also of great importance. The article will be important to those who are presently involved in both material and process selection, as it will outline some of the present methods and introduce the reader to a more scientific approach to this important subject.
This web site is designed to be of service to
both members and non-members, providing contact information for MTI member customers, upcoming
events, and a sample of member services and general industry information.
